An enrollment ceremony for individuals who pass the July 2021 bar examination and who have met all other requirements for admission to the bar will be held Friday, October 1, 2021. The enrollment ceremony is the traditional welcome extended to new members of The Missouri Bar by the judges of the Supreme Court of Missouri, the officers of The Missouri Bar, and the members of the Missouri Board of Law Examiners.  Your attendance at the enrollment ceremony is anticipated.  Please carefully review these instructions regarding the ceremony.

An outdoor ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m., October 1, on the south lawn of the Missouri State Capitol Building, Jefferson City, Missouri.  Seats will be reserved for enrollees.  Guests should plan on bringing chairs or standing if all available seating is occupied by enrollees.  Face masks will be required for all in attendance, including guests. Markers will be placed along the registration lines for social distancing and chairs will be placed a minimum of six feet apart. The ceremony will be live-streamed on The Missouri Bar Facebook page.

Inclement Weather:  In the event the outdoor ceremony must be canceled because of inclement weather, a virtual ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m., October 1, via weblink.  All eligible applicants will be notified by email on September 30 if the outdoor ceremony is canceled and will be expected to attend the virtual ceremony.

Courtroom Attire
Enrollees are expected to dress in business attire for both the outdoor and virtual (if inclement weather) ceremonies before the Supreme Court of Missouri.  Appropriate attire is a coat and tie, a dress, or a suit.  Revealing clothing and jeans are not appropriate attire.

The outdoor ceremony will be held on the lawn and turf may be uneven.

Outdoor Ceremony:  Registration for the ceremony will begin at 9:30  a.m. on the south lawn where the event will be held.  Enrollees will pick up their license and oath at registration and then be seated.  Guests should plan on bringing chairs or standing if all available seating is occupied by enrollees.  There will be one ceremony for all enrollees in attendance, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Inclement Weather Virtual Ceremony:  In the event of inclement weather, enrollees will be provided a link on September 30 to attend the virtual ceremony.  There will be one virtual ceremony for all enrollees, beginning at 10:30 a.m. on October 1, if the outdoor ceremony is canceled.

For the outdoor ceremony, there is no parking in the lot located behind the Supreme Court Building, which is reserved for the use of Supreme Court judges and personnel.  There is a public parking garage on Madison Street, two blocks east and one block north of the Supreme Court Building.  In addition, meter parking is available throughout the downtown area.

Access for Individuals with Disabilities

The Missouri State Capitol Building grounds are accessible to individuals with a disability and handicap parking is available.   Please see this link for information regarding the location of handicap parking.

The Ceremony
The bar enrollment ceremony begins with the opening of Court. After the judges take their seat, a member of the Missouri Board of Law Examiners welcomes those in attendance and moves the Court to admit all the applicants to The Missouri Bar. Thereafter, a representative of The Missouri Bar welcomes the applicants and seconds the motion for admittance. The Chief Justice then administers the Oath.  The ceremony concludes with the closing of Court.
Outdoor Ceremony:  Each applicant will receive their license at registration and will be called by name during the ceremony to stand and be recognized.

Inclement Weather Virtual Ceremony:  Each applicant will be called by name during the ceremony to stand and be recognized.  Licenses will be mailed to applicants after the enrollment ceremony.

The Roll of Attorneys

While at the outdoor ceremony, newly admitted enrollees should sign the Roll of Attorneys. This book contains the names of all attorneys enrolled by this Court, and you should be certain that your name is included. You may sign the Roll either before or after the ceremony.  For those attending the virtual ceremony, the Roll of Attorneys will be made available during subsequent Missouri Bar events.

Photographs are allowed during the ceremony.

Federal Court Ceremony
The United States District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Missouri will conduct an enrollment ceremony for those applicants who plan to practice in the U.S. District Court.  Review this information for details.

Admission Process for those not Attending the Ceremony

Eligible candidates who do not attend the enrollment ceremony may complete the admission process by taking the oath and completing the verification form.  All individuals who pass the July 2021 bar examination and who meet all other requirements for admission to The Missouri Bar will be sent an e-mail with specific instructions for taking the oath of admission, as set out in Rule 8.15.  Please review this MBLE webpage for detailed information regarding the oath requirements and instructions for completing the verification form once eligible.
